The population of the Podkarpackie is around 2 million 97 thousand, which constitutes 5.5% of the total Polish population. There are 118.7 people per 1 km² and the province is seventh in the country in population density. In the most densely populated Łańcut district, there are 172 people per 1 km². The least densely populated is the Bieszczady district, with 26 people per 1 km². Our society is very young, because over half of the Podkarpackie citizens are below 33 years of age. Only 45% of the Podkarpackie citizens live in cities, which, compared with the global Polish figure of 61.8%, makes us the least urbanized province in the country. Birthrate in the Podkarpackie is 0.8%, and for Poland globally it is 0.1%. We have a very high fertility rate – 43 children per 1000 women in the countryside, and 31 children per 1000 women in the cities. Longevity in the Podkarpackie is higher than in other provinces: 71 years of age for men (global figure for Poland – 68 years), and 79 years of age for women (global figure for Poland – 78 years). In the Podkarpackie “the prettier” sex dominates and constitutes 51% of the total population. The largest number o women, 109 per 100 men, are in the cities. In comparison, there are 101 women per 100 men in the countryside.
